Broj poginulih u urušavanju vijadukta u Genovi porastao je na 42, a potraga za žrtvama i dalje traje, rekao je u srijedu glavni gradski tužitelj.
“U ovom trenutku znamo za 42 poginulih, uključujući troje maloljetnika”, rekao je tužitelj Francesco Cozzi za RAI, dodajući da su to privremeni podaci.
Ministar unutarnjih poslova Matteo Salvini rekao je ranije da je među žrtvama troje djece u dobi od 8, 12 i 13 godina.

Vijadukt se urušio u utorak tijekom nevremena. Gotovo 240 vatrogasaca pretraživalo je cijelu noć ruševine uz pomoć pasa tragača ne bi pronašli preživjele.
Nekih 30 do 35 automobila i tri kamiona palo je s visine od 45 metara kada se vijadukt Morandi, koji mještani zovu Bruklinski most, urušio. Vijadukt se nalazi iznad rijeke, željezničke pruge i dva skladišta.
Bio je ključan prometni pravac u gradu povezujući ceste koje idu prema Francuskoj i Milanu.
“Ljudi koji žive u Genovi voze se preko tog vijadukta nekoliko puta na dan”, rekao je zamjenik ministra za infrastrukturu i promet Edoardo Rixi, koji je podrijetlom iz Genove.
Premijer Giuseppe Conte, koji je u utorak prekinuo ljetovanje kako bi obišao mjesto nesreće, napisao je na Facebooku da je doživio “najduži i najteži dan kao premijer”.
Obećao je da će se provesti provjera stanja talijanske cestovne infrastrukture kako se ovakva tragedija ne bi ponovila.
Ministar infrastrukture i prometa Danilo Toninelli okrivio je za nesreću privatnu tvrtku za autoceste Autostrade per l’Italia i pozvao njezinu upravu da odmah podnese ostavku.
S druge strane, Salvini je napomenuo da europska pravila o proračunskoj disciplini priječe Italiji ulaganja u poboljšanje infrastrukture.
“Uvijek morate tražiti dopuštenje za trošenje novca”, rekao je.
Autostrade per l’Italia u utorak je objavio da je vijadukt Morandi, sagrađen 1960-ih, bio pod stalnim nadzorom i da su upravo u tijeku bili radovi na jačanju njegovih temelja.
Prije dvije godine, profesor građevinarstva na Sveučilištu u Genovi Antonio Brencich ocijenio je da je most “građevinski neuspjeh” s “jako visokim troškovima održavanja”.
